A-Players: The 4 C’s of Diamond-Standard Employees

A-Players are a company’s most valuable asset. You know it. They know it. And don’t forget—your competitors know it, too.
— Bill Watkins, Founder of The Lions Pride

A-Player employees and diamonds have a lot in common. They cut even the densest work in half. They sparkle under pressure. They make anyone who keeps them stand out. Everyone wants the biggest, brightest one.

Want more Diamonds in your circle? Follow the 4 C’s.

Cut

  • Does their work make the cut?

  • Do they reflect your team’s brilliance with their unique angle?

  • Have they (and you) actively honed their skills in a way that brings out their best qualities?

Clarity

  • Are you both clear on expectations and end results?

  • Do the flaws that make them human cloud the contributions that make a team?

Color

  • Are they a good chemical fit for your company culture?

  • Do they allow the craftsmanship and creativity of others to shine through?

Carat / Carrot

  • Are you incentivizing them to work to their highest potential?

  • Do they require more benefits and compensation than they provide?

When you know what you want and are ready to commit to a company strategy, Diamond employees seal the deal. Keep, reward, polish, ensure, inspire, and value accordingly.

Onward,

Bill

Schedule five-minute check-ins with your A-Players (as in...get them on your calendar before you close this browser) to see how they are doing, how you can help them, and how they can help you better. One-on-one time will do you both some good.
